After taking photos of this eagle at a local sanctuary for birds of prey, I knew I had to paint it. I didn't know that it would lead me to consider what freedom means so deeply and on so many levels. This eagle holds a tag that says "free" which can mean both "not bound by anything" and "without cost". It's done on purpose to be a reminder that true freedom comes with a cost. I think true freedom involves being loved unconditionally by someone who has your safety in mind and wants you to flourish, and grow into who you were truly created to be. This image is a reminder that my freedom was purchased with a cost when Christ died for me and through Him I am free like this eagle to flourish within the parameters God created and someday I can experience true freedom with Him in heaven. "Who the Son sets free, is free indeed." John 8:36 read more on my blog here.
